Incorrect Ambient Temperature and Humidity Readings

You can access the temperature and humidity readings in your immediate vicinity using the Bosch BME280 sensor in the Atmotube PRO that reports the local temperature, pressure, and humidity readings. The sensor has been lab tested and certified to be accurate with a variability of around ± 1 degree Celsius and ± 3% RH. However, field testing will result in higher variability. The sensor does not support automatic calibration. However, if your readings consistently differ from a reference instrument, a manual offset adjustment is available in the app settings.

The readings may be affected by:

  • device charging

  • extensive heating (e.g. holding the device in hands, sun exposure)

  • moving the device from a cold to a warm environment as the device needs some time to gauge temperature readings, which is at least 15-20 minutes to reflect accurate temperature readings

We advise the following to make sure you're getting accurate readings:

Make sure the device isn't situated somewhere or on something that might affect the readings, like close to a heating inlet or another potential source of heat, such as direct sunlight.

For accurate readings, allow the device time to stabilise depending on the situation:

  • After handling the device (e.g. carrying it in your hand or pocket) — wait at least 30 minutes. Direct contact transfers body heat into the device casing, which takes longer to dissipate than ambient air temperature changes.

  • After moving between environments (e.g. from outdoors to indoors, or from a cold room to a warm one) — wait at least 15–20 minutes. This is enough time for the sensor to adjust to the new ambient air temperature.

  • After charging — temperature and humidity readings are paused during charging as the device generates heat. Once charging is complete, wait a few minutes for the sensor to stabilise before relying on the readings.

If the device readings need to be offset in comparison with a more accurate temperature and humidity sensor, you can perform fine-tuning in App>Settings>Advanced options on Android and App>Settings>Device>Calibration Update on iOS.
