Using a Wi-Fi router with built-in LTE as a hub
Updated over 2 months ago

In some cases, you may find yourself in an area where traditional Wi-Fi is unavailable, unreliable, or insufficiently secure for your needs. A WiFi router with a built-in LTE modem, which utilizes a SIM card for mobile data, can provide a stable and secure internet connection for Atmocube. As an example, take a look at:

‍

This router offers a reliable solution by converting LTE (4G) mobile connections into a private Wi-Fi network, to which you can connect your Atmocube. Please make sure to use a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network; 2.4 GHz networks cover longer distances and Atmocube does not connect to 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks.

Setting Up Your LTE Router

Purchase and activate a SIM card:

1. Choose a data plan from a mobile carrier that offers good coverage in your area of interest.

! Data Charges: Be mindful of the data plan associated with your SIM card. Ensure it provides sufficient data allowance for Atmocube's needs; average data usage is about 0.25 MB/day. In addition to this, occasional OTA updates can use up to 1.5–2 MB per update: Data and Storage FAQ

2. You may want to double-check that the SIM card has internet access by placing it on your smartphone first.

3. Insert the activated SIM card into the LTE router.

Configure the LTE Router:

‍Depending on the router, it may or may not require additional setup. The example router, the TP-LINK Archer MR400, is plug-and-play: just insert a SIM card and you're done.

For a different router, follow the router setup guide to configure the router. This typically involves connecting it to a power source and accessing the router's web interface via a browser or mobile app.

Connect the Atmocube to the Router Wi-Fi Network:

Once the LTE router is set up and broadcasting a Wi-Fi signal, configure your Atmocube to connect to this network. Steps in this support article: Wi-Fi Setup via Mobile App
